Established in 1788 by Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, Colel Chabad is the oldest continuously operating charity of its kind in Israel. Our purpose is to provide direct, meaningful help to the neediest in Israel - regardless of background or affiliation - in a manner that preserves and enhances their dignity.
Colel Chabad's activities range from operating a chain
of
soup kitchens to visiting sick children in hospitals; from interest-free
loans for widows to subsidized
weddings for orphans; from daycare
centers to pediatric dental
clinics for impoverished children; from holiday clothing vouchers to monthly food baskets for the neediest families.
The Colel Chabad pushka has been a fixture in Jewish homes and places of business for two centuries. It provides an opportunity to give charity on a daily basis. In Jewish tradition, the frequency of tzedakah is as important - if not more so - than the quantity one gives.
